pullets and shorter days

Stupid question I am sure....but if my pullets start coming of egg laying age in a few weeks, and they days are starting to get short etc...does that mean they will delay the start of laying until the spring when the days start getting longer? Or will they lay their first ones regardless and a smattering of here and there throughout the winter? I forget if my hens lay at all in late fall/early winter - they have already gone down to ever other or every three days. Thanks for any wisdom

Pullets (depending upon breed) generally start laying their first autumn and continue through the winter. Older birds may not.

Most likely they'll start laying fall/winter (and lay through winter), but onset of laying may get delayed a bit.
