Yea, My Barred Rocks are 17 weeks. 23 weeks is the youngest that I've read this past week of Barred Rocks laying, till now. I'm glad to see 2 of yours have started, by 21 weeks. Gives me hope that mine could start mid January.
One BR started laying in week 19 followed closely by the Orpington. Got 5 eggs today and I think the fifth is from a new BR layer since it's really small. I've had no soft eggs to date. At 18 weeks I switched to an all flock type pellet with free choice oyster. You are right... they went to town on it initially and now I see them picking around occasionally but the same happened when I introduced grit. I put out some old white glass eggs we had before they started laying. The BR eggs are a little darker than the Orpingtons. Looking forward to your first egg announcement!
