Pullets attacked and won't go back in the coop. Help

In NY you can shoot and Kill Wild or Domestic Animal's that are attacking your Live Stock. If it was me Depending on how close and how well you get along with your Neighbors I would Take care of the situation.

Hey I thought you said in one of your posts that you were a sheriff... If you are the right guy....... YAY I CAN KILL THEM =] Lol

We had this situation a few weeks ago a neighbors dog was in his coop and killed about 10 chickens before he was shot and killed, the Neighbor was upset but this was a on going problem, the owner of the birds was protected by the law he did nothing wrong.

I agree, we have not had too many problems, but once a raccoon starts working at it, there is only one way to stop the problem. If ignored they don't seem to stop, I have had them return every night digging, and working at trying to break in. We don't go out of our way chasing down any animal, but we target the problem animal. Once the problem animal has been removed we seem to go at least several months or more before another starts trying to dig/break in.

RI DEM told me yesterday (after we had a skunk kill several hens in broad daylight by digging under the fence into our enclosed run) you have the right to "protect your property" by any means necessary. Shot the little bas###d and will continue to protect our "family" as needed!

If you are within city limits and shooting is not an option...I would umm see that it somehow found its way into a trap that somehow found its way into a deep water source for several minutes and then into a big hole that somehow dug itself somewhere remote. But that is me and the predator would have to be encouraged of course.

Legal or not, I would kill it .... then I would try to Revive it JUST to kill it again ....

if you can't use a gun for fear of getting busted, use a bow ....

if you can't shoot a bow ... trap it and release it from the top of the nearest bridge and see if it bounces upon impact ...

AWESOME hahahaha, First though i would test the affects of tazers on animals xD Or fill up a kiddy pool and put an live extension cord in it and drop it in... Yeah yeah yeah im mean xD

One of my girls was attacked about 5 weeks ago. Lost alot of feathers and down but I cleaned her up, treated her and she has been back to laying for a while now. Then last night, something ( opossum most likely) got in the coop, took Snowball who was a Plymouth Rock and NOT tiny, and gutted her. We are so sad. I have been gathering up the first one who was attacked each night and putting her back in the coop. Now neither she or my Americana will go into the coop. They seem to feel safe in the big dog crate so I locked them in there last night. I need to put door on the coop. These are the first problems we have had in a year.

My daughter wants to catch the opossum and watch it die she is so mad at it, I really resent having to pay $100 to move a predator but I heard it is illegal to kill them. So my 2 questions are; what to do with the murderer and how do I get my girls to like their coop again so I don't have to play hide and go seek at sundown.

Do you have a door on your coop? We lock our girls up every night. the 3S method of dealing with pest is great. Hawks are protected also, but I might kill one if it was attacking our girls
