Pullets or Cockerel?

So at 12 weeks, if an EE was going to be an rooster, it would be very obvious by now? My first 6 are at least 12 weeks (maybe 13) and no combs or wattles yet.

Start a thread and post some pics. A lot of us can usually tell by 12 weeks if it's a pullet or cockerel, mostly judging by the redness of the comb.

Okay, this is what I just learned from the guy I got my little Polish from. He claims to be dead on every time. Scoop chick up and flip them on their backs in your hand. A female will go still. A little roo will kick and flop and keep trying to get over. I've never personally tried it, but he swears by it.

This is the exact same question that I had about my six lol and 3 of mine are buff orpingtons, about the same size, a little bigger but I just can't tell if mine are hens or aren't. I saw somewhere that their tail feathers will be able to tell you the sex of them, a co-worker also told me that you can tell by their combs, the roosters combs will start to form sooner and faster than hens do. And she does use that method to tell hers apart, she said she's been doing it for a while and it works for her.

Hi Again,

So I tried to number them the same as before. These are now 6.5 weeks EE's and Buff Orpingtons and I would again appreciate your help on IDing the Pullets and Cockerels!
I now think I may have 5 cockerels out of 6! Hope I'm wrong! #1 is the only one I feel pretty certain is a pullet.
Thinking of also doing the "hat trick/test" anyone had luck with that?
Thanks so much.

will this work at any age or just week olds? Mine are about 5 weeks and I'm having the same problem with my EE... thanks

I think number 3 is your only buff cockerel the other buffs look like pullets, I agree with the first ee being a pullet and the other two roos, so it looks like half half to me!
