Oops. I can't spell. I meant Shaffer - Harry Shaffer. He's a member of BYC, has lav ameraucanas and black araucanas.

Hi Shay,

It's a comb, not a crown. Spurs don't noticeably develop until a cockerel is a year or older.

The tail looks to be missing on the lavender? Molting, perhaps?

Look at the hackle and saddle feathers to see if they are pointed or rounded at the tips. At 4-5 months, this trait should be present. The only one I can tell enough about from the photos is the last one--looks feminine.

Actually all my cockerels started to get there spurs popping out at 3 to 5 months old. and i have been pretty right about the spurs, All my roo spurs are popping out at 3 to 4 months old. granted some hens end up with spurs that belong on a male, LOL

The lavender does have a tail, in the pic it looks like it does not but she does.

Yea he saddles and hackles, to me they very girlish, i just needed some other opions. They look rounded to me. And i dont see any saddles on them like a boy.

And actually i have seen in some books and magazines where they call the comb a crown.

But Thank you for clarifying that term with me. I always end up calling it what ever, LOL

#3 looks to have a muff/beard and also the tie on the leg? if so that is the one pure black ameraucana that was in there, the tie should come off soon.....can't see the comb well enough to confirm gender...
the one on the right in the first pic is the tailed araucana? is that the one crowing? if so, if the hackle feathers have some reddish color to them that is the lav split araucana......
the lav doesn't seem to have those sickle feathers yet...my pullet left me guessing forever, I swore it was a cockeral, until she didn't develop sickle feathers like her hatchmate....
The black rumpless looks like a pullet too, but can't commit without a good comb shot....
