I posted on here not to long ago with what was probably unfortunately Marek's and ended up losing three to that. Now my EE Gerty is having trouble walking, shaking her head and had lost weight. I'm sad to say she's pretty thin but I've been watching her eat and she's eating a lot of food. I'm wondering if she has a parasite? I've been giving her nutri-drench the last couple days and put some electrolytes and probiotics in the flock's water last night. It's not presenting like the other ones did so any ideas? When she does walk she stays low to the ground. She was born May 22.

I'm sorry you're having trouble.

It could very well be Marek's since you suspect that was what affected your other girls.
Without testing, there's no way to know for sure.

You can try vitamin therapy to see if there is any improvement -crush a human B-Complex vitamin and add it to her food daily. See that she is eating her chick starter well and drinking. If you can - have a fecal float performed just to rule out worms and Coccidiosis. There are some conditions/other illnesses that can look like Marek's.

Hi again! Sorry to see you back with yet another sick pullet. Gerty seems so sweet, and it's sad to see her like this.

But given the way the others died, I fear Gerty has now become a victim, also.

It sure wouldn't hurt to get a fecal float test done to rule out parasites. But this sure looks like Marek's. I'm afraid Marek's is going to be making its presence known from time to time in your flock. You're doing the right thing with the Nutri-drench. Keep your flock well nourished and their immune systems can fight the virus more effectively and hopefully build resistance.

Not all will be able to fight off the virus, though. Gerty may be its latest casualty.

Thank you both. I was hoping Marek's wasn't the case but knew it could be.
