I've got some 3 month old pullets that are doing great. They moved into the coop when they were 5-6 weeks old, and after a few days of picking them out of the run, they would put themselves to bed in a pile in the coop.

A couple weeks ago, I notice they were trying to sleep while roosting in the run. I put them in the coop, and they slept on the floor?

Now they're sleeping full time in the roost in the run, and won't even consider sleeping in the coop. They will only go into it if it's raining, where they stay on the floor. What gives?

The run is as safe as the coop, so that's not a concern, but there is a lot more poop then the run was meant to handle.

Here are some of my thoughts, questions, and suggestions.
Does your coop have a roost??? Chickens prefer roost perch over a floor.
You mention that the run is loaded with chicken gumdrops.. :idunno That suggests to me that you have one of the small coop/run combo chicken housings. Naturally chickens feel just fine in the run portion, just equal as being in small confined coop portion. If you would post some pix of your coop, and run,, we could get better ideas to give better suggestions.
Also would be good to know your general location, so that we could know of climate conditions, and such.
:he Just don't know why most newcomers hesitate to include location in their profile. Don't need your address,,, just city, or state, or country. If you are really concerned about privacy, then lie, and post adjoining state as location with same climate/weather.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

Mine will not sleep on their perch .. they prefer to cuddle up together in a pile. They enjoy sitting on their perch throughout the day and in the evenings about an hour before bed, they’ll sit on their perch and stare out. No idea what they’re thinking but they remind me of little old men porch sitting.
Then they’ll make their way inside and They’ll pile up and go to sleep lol

however, my perch is located in their run next to where they like to go inside and sleep.. it’s not in a coop. I don’t know if that makes a difference. My real coop hasn’t been built yet so I’ve tried to make due with a barrel as a coop for now

Please post pics of your coop and run, inside and out.
How many birds do you have?
Guessing it may be too small and/or hot and stuffy.

Oh, and.... Welcome to BYC! @dcm
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
