Pullets sleeping on floor of coop

I have three 3 month old pullets. They try to sleep in their nesting boxes so I covered them, but they are still sleeping on the floor of the coop and not roosting. I try to place them up there but they always end up on the floor huddled by the door. What can I do?

Mine do the same thing. It's nothing to worry about. If your coop is off the ground then in their mind they are roosting.

I have been going to the coop the last few nights and putting each one on the roost. I do it around 10 pm so its full dark.

It doesn't really matter where they sleep, as long as they are sleeping. Some chickens just don't like to roost. One of my hens always sleeps on the floor.

Sometimes it helps to give the chickens a roost when they are about 3 weeks old, they appreciate it and it teaches them how to roost from a young age.

I could care less where they sleep if it wasn't for the fact that its so much easier to scoop the poop out of the poop box that is under the roost board. LOL

Lol! I guess I don't care because I don't have a box under the roost....

Yes, it does help when it's dark. The chickens don't want to leave the roost in pitch black!

So, has this method worked? My three pullets have been sleeping on the ground as well. When I first moved them from the house to the chicken coop, we had a few cold, rainy nights, so I built them a little "box" out of cardboard that was covered in plastic which protected them from the wind and rain. I took it away two nights ago to encourage them to roost but I found them huddled on the ground tonight. I went out there later, when it was really dark and put them on the roost. I am wondering if this will work. They are 11 weeks old. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

My first group of chicks slept in their house (storage tote with a door cut in) until they were about 3 1/2 mos old, then all of a sudden, one night they were on the roost. My second group of chicks started sleeping on a roost at 1 month old. Go figure!!

It has worked! I only had to go out 2 nights in a row and set birds before they all got it. The 2nd night when I went out, 5 pullets were already on the roost. So I picked up the others and put them up there. The 3rd night, I went out and they were all up there!! I went out at about 10pm, giving them time to really settle in.
