I'm hoping to get some chicks in from my local rural king next week but since who knows when they are coming in and what breeds they will have. Does anyone know If they label their strait runs and pullets? I got my last batch from tractor supply and had a pretty good turnout. Only one surprise roo... who my mom pulled from the bantam bin. I saw that RK has a larger variety and some hope i can get my dream chicken breeds. I just wanted to make sure before I trek the hour or so up there to find out everything is a SR. I am going to check out my local feed store as well but they haven't been having luck in the breeds I've been looking for. I have been checking in on shipments from both tonsee the next date I could run up to either but since neither store has anything in it feels weird to ask them. Figured you guys might have an idea

I bought 7 chicks from RK last year. The bins were labeled but I still got a Ameraucana suprise roo. They did have a better selection of breeds then other local stores. I got 2 ameraucana 1 buff orb 2 mystic marans 1 partridge rock and 1 splash gem. All are doing well. Even ZZ the 🐓

You could call Rural King and ask them these questions.

You could also ask them which hatchery they get their chicks from... Google says Hoovers

One more... You could ask them if you can place an order by looking at Hoovers? catalog and have your dreamy chicks arrive to the store on their delivery date.
Orrrrr....cut out Rural King, place order thru Hoovers? And have the chicks dropped at your local Postal Service.

Same goes for Tractor Supply or any feed store.

Mine from there was correct when I got them about 2 years ago. I think they usually label them straight run or I even saw one brooder labeled unsexed this year. I bought some from there and I’m pretty sure at least one wasn’t actually what it were suppose to be breed wise, they had multiple breeds in one bin though so it would be hard to keep straight. I have a mystery chick now, just hope it’s a pullet.

I did call and the people I spoke to must have been new or busy. the 1 didn't understand what I was asking the others said they wouldn't know until they got them in since the hatchery is responsible if they do it or not. I know they get supplied from hoovers but hoovers had a minimum of 10 chicks last I looked so I this wasn't my first resource. I checked mcmurry who has a lower minimum chick order of 4... but most breeds im looking for won't be available until mid summer or fall. im looking for 4 to 6 chicks this year since I already have an established small flock. I dont want to chicken math myself out of house and home haha.

Usually they are labeled. You can always call the store you plan to buy them from before you go and they should be able to give you some idea of what they have in stock.
Thank you! I was checking picks and videos of my local store and I couldn't see any of the breed info from their last shipment so I got nervous.

Ooh thank you! I totally understand the possibility of surprise roos. I'm trying to minimize that chance. I dont think I'm zoned for roos. Chickens are but last I saw in my area roos were a no go. And I'm not really looking into hatching so I'd rather just have layers. I'm okay with a surprise breed or two that's fun. Normally I'd try and order but I must have missed the spring window bc everything I want is sold out
