Pullets? Straight run?? Rural king??

Ooh thank you! I totally understand the possibility of surprise roos. I'm trying to minimize that chance. I dont think I'm zoned for roos. Chickens are but last I saw in my area roos were a no go. And I'm not really looking into hatching so I'd rather just have layers. I'm okay with a surprise breed or two that's fun. Normally I'd try and order but I must have missed the spring window bc everything I want is sold out
It’s so fun going into feed stores and looking around😂surprise breeds are kinda fun! Until you drive yourself half crazy looking at pictures of baby chicks trying to identify it lol. I hope you find the breeds you want! Maybe look into your local feed supply store and see if they can place an order for the breeds you want. Also maybe look into mt healthy hatchery, I have no experience ordering from them but they seem to have a wide variety

If yo want specific breeds you need to order well in advance to reserve chicks from a hatchery, like 6 months.

I don't have Rural King in my area so it's mostly local feed stores. My local stores have always posted their expected shipment for the entire year during the start of spring, so something to look for, if they have a website that's up to date?

You could call Rural King and ask them these questions.

You could also ask them which hatchery they get their chicks from... Google says Hoovers

One more... You could ask them if you can place an order by looking at Hoovers? catalog and have your dreamy chicks arrive to the store on their delivery date.
Orrrrr....cut out Rural King, place order thru Hoovers? And have the chicks dropped at your local Postal Service.

Same goes for Tractor Supply or any feed store.
Hoovers hatchery is not taking orders for the 2025 season.

Thank you i will note this next time I need to get more. I thought spring was order time. I've only gotten chicks from stores. I definitely goofed that up. I had hoped to just order them this year but now I have to figure out who has what when. I wish they had a calendar so I wouldn't have to call every few days. We had a cold front and delayed rural kings shipment. I have a local feed store that I want to check out but idk what hatchery or stock they have. I have 2 tractor supplies and I've gotten chicks from them before but they have such a limited stock each week I wanted more options. Rural King is like a supped up tractor supply they have 20ish brooder set up as opposed to the 6 my local ts has.

Also, I have heard sometimes RK gives you a list of the breeds there but they are not labeled individually unlike Tractor Supply, but probably were you live there isn't one local.
I have both. My tractor supply usually gets 6 brooder full with a very basic limited set of chicks. My rural king has 20 plus brooders. I've been looking for buff orps and lavender orps since I started my flock. So that's the goal breeds this round. My bonus would be a favoralle, maran and a splash silkie (I'm doubting i can find one sexed but I can dream lol)

That would make sense why nothing I selected had any dates. Thank you. I was so confused. I know rasing chicks are more popular since last time I got chicks but this is really weird. I hope they are able to ship out next year.

Tractor supply gets buff orpingtons often.

They supply most of all RK and TSC, and probably other feed stores so that's where the chicks are going.
