We have pullets about 10 weeks old and are trying to introduce them. Here are some details.

-They have been living out in the corner of the yard for about 5 weeks.
-The yard is fairly large.
-They have a fence cage separating them from the older chickens.
-Often times both the older and younger chickens have gotten curious and there has been pecking through the fence from both sides. (But mainly from the older ones)
-When we put our sweetest older chicken in with the younger ones, she got pecked, but she also pecked them through the fence after we took her out.
- They both have plenty of food + water and are free to roam our whole yard.

Are there methods of introduction other than 'see but don't touch?'
How long will it take to introduce them?
Thanks,

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! I always use the see but dont touch as I find it a great way of introducing them. Even with this method there still will be some pecking and squabbles as they get used to each other. It is literally how they sort the pecking order out. I'm afraid no introduction can go with out any pecking at all.

Good luck getting everyone together. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
