Pulling the trigger

w3ell, bought nipples, a feeder and a waterer today. I am looking to construct the brooder here soon.
Then I need the heater thingy, feed, and the bedding.
Also corid and electrolytes.

What am I forgetting?
(Besides the hardware cloth, roofing, etc)

The babies won't be able to use horizontal nipples for several weeks and will need an open waterer until they get strong enough.

Chicks' needs are pretty simple -- food, water, warmth (but not too much), protection from wind, and predator security. :)

good, went ahead and purchased the heater (and a thermometer I can read from the house)
Hobby Farm - the chicken edition,
And I was stumped
the suggested medicine was not on the shelf, not even a hit it should be there (So I would need a source to order from)

Feed: Which kind to get? I know, flock raiser.
But should I get medicated or not, and which is the better brand? (or are they both prone to massive failure?) DuMore or Purina?

I like to add a little chick-sized roost to the brooder. I made my own, but there are many available to buy. Do you have a way to suspend, hang, or raise up your waterers and feeders?

If you are getting chicks you will want Starter or Starter&Grower feed.

I personally like to start them on medicated chick starter just to be safe. Then I switch them over the all flock crumble.

What's the protein percentage on the feed you're looking at? I wouldn't go less than 18% and would prefer 20%.

I think the ready available blend is either 18 or 19% depending on brand.
Do you have a preference about brand? (I would love to not buy Purina.....it's Nestle company, and dang I hate their politics!)
