Pumpkin is about 2 years old, a mix breed naked neck.
Her mama had just started to lay (small) eggs when she disappeared into the bush and returned one day with chicks. Pumpkin and the others are smaller with shorter legs than the rest of the flock, all have a tendency to limp, so we keep them as comfortable as we can (restructured roosts, etc.) They are shy so I rarely handle them to avoid stress.
A couple of weeks ago I brought Pumpkin and her sister, Pie, into my backyard. They were being picked on more than usual because I had removed the protective rooster.
We then had a few wet stormy days (it's hot tropical summer here) and she would not come to the sheltered verandah so remained wet and on wet ground.
Yesterday she had terrible gurgling wheeze and wasn't moving around (I give her scrambled egg each morning). I moved her and she drank water and today has perked up a little and devoured her egg, a little chicken but ignored her normal food -naturally
The gurgling wheezing is less but still there.
There is much less swelling in the "crop" area.
She is moving more, her eyes and nose are clear.
I'd still like to put her on anti-biotics and would appreciate any advice and recommendations for the right anti-biotics.
Edit to add: there is no history of respiratory illness in my flock and no other chicken has it.
