Being fall I thought it be fun to get a small pumpkin and see how they react to it. I cut off the top and put it in the coop, and they all jumped on it and within an hour they had it all eaten inside. Fall is fun!
I often bring the Jack o'Lanterns back in the house after Halloween.
Cut into chunks, they go in the steamer. The cooked pumpkin can then go in bags and to the freezer. The Jack o'Lanterns don't even need to be peeled. During the winter, I will bring a bag out once a week or so.
Whenever they can get it, the chickens love all squash, cucumbers and melons. It seems a shame to deprive them during the winter months when it is so easy to have something in the freezer for them
