Punksatony Phil may have competition...

I don't know how accurate this may be, but Punksatony Phil may have some competition. He apparently predicted 6 more weeks of winter, and while that may be true up in Punksatony, I'm thinking that the California winter is coming to a close (possible?). I have two bantam hens that were laying well for their first season out-doing my slow starting Ameraucanas by a long shot during the summer and fall. When winter started sinking it's icy teeth into us they stopped laying while the Ameraucanas kept up. Yesterday I go out to collect eggs and what do I find? A banty white egg! I guess the days have been just long enough for my picky little hen who decided spring is coming. Sorry Phil, she says you're wrong. Teeheehee. I may be way off, but I'm so excited that our egg production will grow soon so I'm feeling a bit silly.

Must have been something in the air, I collected 16 eggs from my 20hens that's the largest number I've had since fall!!

Mine aren't laying well. I have 2 molting, and the rest are mad at me cuz I put new chickens in with them.

I just don't understand the whole groundhog thing.. He *always* predicts 6 more weeks of winter and there is a good reason for this.. If you look on the calendar, you will count roughly 6 1/2 weeks between February 2 (groundhog day) and March 21 (first day of spring).. So although the weather may get warmer sooner than the actual 6 weeks is over, there will *always* be 6 more weeks til spring... LOL
Congrats on the eggs though! It's always EGGciting finding more than you expect!

Every time I go to visit my grandparents I have to drive though punxsutawney. It is the silliest city ever, everything is named "groundhog". The groudhog car wash, the ground hog hotel.....everything. They have these huge decorated groundhogs in front of every business. Very funny.
