The chickens were in their yard but she got out somehow. It looks like the puppies were trying to pull her feathers out and pulled a couple of sections of flesh off.

There is a piece of missing flash under her wing and another section close to her vent. Each section is about 3 inches across.

For the most part the underlying muscle tissue is not damaged. There is an area close to her vent where some of the muscle is missing.

I am heart broken and on the verge of crying. She had certain traits that I wanted to breed her for. Such as she was always adventurous out foraging and leading the pack.

Do I put her down or take care of her?

She is a 2 year old Rhode Island Red and one of my favorite hens.

Just brought the hen in off the perch, covered her wounds in neosporin, then set her back out on the perch.

I'll keep the wounds flushed and coated.

As of this morning she was still alive.

After my wife and I get home from work I am going to wash her wounds real good, then apply more neosporin.

my dogs got at one of my hens once. she had a huge gash by her vent, on her neck, and right on top of her head. i just keep her wounds clean and dry. and she healed up in no time.

She was dead by the time I got home from work.

I buried her next to a freshly planted grape fruit tree.

She will be missed.
