puppy training....please help

Thank you all for the advice I will try some new things. As far as the puppy classes one just started on the 6th. I live in a small town in the middle of know where so options are not the greatest I have to drive a little over an hour for that one so I passed maybe the next session if I can't find one sooner closer to me.

You have some great advice here. I'll just reinforce that it really is important to follow through. Don't even bother calling her when she's off leash until her recall on a long line is solid. Then when you do, if she doesn't come the first time, you MUST go get her.

I raise Seeing Eye Dogs so I will give you the adivce that we use to get the dogs to come.

First put the dog on a long leash, let her get her mind off of you and just let her run around the yard with no restictions. Then call her name and see if she comes, if not then gently reel the leash in until she is right next to you. Then PRAISE! Repeat this several times, until the dog comes by itself then eventually go off leash. Remeber to always have a high pitch "girly" voice. It helps.

For the stayin in the sit and down position, we use our hands. First get your dog in a sit/down. Then get the dogs attention to focus on you. Then place your hand in front of the dogs face and say stay. Take a short step out, stand there for about 1-2 seconds. Then come back to the dogs side and PRAISE! Repeat this several time lengthening the time that you are away from their side.

If you have anymore questions feel free to PM me anytime.

P.S. Always remeber to use your happy voice when prasising and trying to call the dog in. Use your regular voice when telling a command. It also helps if you pick a side for the dog to be on at all times. Like our Seeing Eye Dogs are trained to be on our left at all times. When sitting, walking, also while laying down.

I have had her since she was 8 weeks old. Sorry I did not mention that before.

She was really good tonight showing our older daughter that is here to visit what she know she did everything I asked the first time with no treats she even knows how to roll over.....cracks me up can't wait till she is fully grown doing that. She can sit, lay down, roll over and she comes for the most part still working on this but seems a tad better since I posted this thread.

I need to work on the stay part sitting and laying down for sure still and we are working on shaking also she is so smart just easily distracted.

I will be putting her in the next classes for training that starts.

Thank you again.

Distraction means she needs more reinforcement on how to get rewards by paying attention to you.

Did you visit YouTube and watch any of kikopup's vids?

I did watch some of them....I tried to subscribe to it but it would not let me just kept having me sign in and thats all it would do. I do have treats and use them but if she hears a noise or sees something she wants to do that instead. I will continue to work with her....I put all the other dogs up and try working with her when it is me and her only for less distraction when an actually lesson....but I keep saying the same things to her as needed throughout the day as well that I have been teaching her and that is when I notice her distraction the most.
