So, I have been looking for something to use as a chicken coop for a while now, and saw one on craigslist that I briefly considered...until I saw the interior, still covered in old chicken poop...it got me wondering, is it really safe to consider buying someone else's used chicken coop? Couldn't my chickens "catch" something from the remnants of the previous residents?

The interior is wood, and super porous, so there really isn't a way to sanitize the inside, huh?

(sorry if this is in the wrong area...it is disease related, but I wasn't sure where to put it.)

I would buy a used chicken coop (though I think its pretty tacky they couldn't at least scrape the poo out of it). I would also sanitize the crud out of it with bleach. Maybe bleach it a few times. I would think the bleach would kill any pests (fleas/lice/mites) along with the germs. Good luck!
