hey jody...we are about to have our first go ( my six year old son and me) at hatching eggs in our homemade incubator. We have 24 chickens in our flock already although we are still newish to the hobby. We really want to try some of your Araucana eggs. Are they particularly hard to hatch compared to other breeds? how about the silkies? How much out of interest is the tufted pair you are selling?
Aran, hatching is a lot of fun, but sometimes tough with a homemade incubator. I would recommend trying to hatch some of your home eggs in it first to see how it goes. Araucana eggs can be VERY difficult to hatch & add shipping into that equation it is tough. The fatal tuft gene often leaves chicks dead in shell. Altho they are hard to hatch, they are sometimes the only way to get started with this breed. For the cost of eggs, even 2 chicks is worth the investment IMO. I haven't found another breed near as difficult as the araucana to work with (breeding & hatching). They are a true challenge and lots of fun.
I included some pics of the 2 I mentioned in my photobucket if anyone wants to see them, along with other birds I have for sale. I am asking $20 each for the tufted/rumpless. There is also a Blue/Red Tufted cockerel (partial tailed) available for $5 and Buff Orp cockerels for $5 each. Those are pick up prices...shipping is additional. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v185/hinkjc/For%20Sale/
