Ok, I am getting some white and buff cochins (bantams). I already have a red roo (still cochin, still bantam). My question is if these start breeding, will they be considered pure.

In other words, is the only way to keep a breed "pure' by not only breeding with same kind, or does color come into play also?

Will it be a cross based on color? And will that make it a cochin mutt?

I know silly questions, but just checking.

If you cross the colors they will not breed true. that breed is separated by color. If you are planing on selling them or showing them keep them separate. but if you just want fluffy butts for your own amusement keep them together.

Basically- they'll still be cochins, but not accepted colors. You may end up with some solid colors, but they won't breed true, and you should tell anyone that buys chicks from you about their background. Personally- I love the color crosses
