Speckled Sussex. $12.00 a dozen
These are very attractive birds. They tend to be quite docile and have done a great job of laying for me this year.
Norwegian Jaerhorn. $20.00 a dozen
One of my favorite breeds. I love their auto sexing trait. So handy when you are hatching babies. They are fabulous layers of large white eggs.
These came from Ideal Poultry. Their birds have a lot of serious genetic issues, ( mostly regarding color), and I have had to cull quite heavily.
I think they are vastly improved this year.
Icelandics. $25.00 a dozen
I am new to this breed. I really like them. They are excellent layers of small white eggs. Their wide range of colors are interesting.
I never know what the babies will look like. I find they are a little harder to get started than some of my other breeds, but once they are past the baby stage I do not think I have ever lost one save to predators. Very active, but not extremely flighty. Great birds to add to your flock.
Egyptian Fayoumis. $16.00 a dozen
These are some pretty neat birds. They are very hardy, and fast maturing. I had read that the roosters would try to crow at 4 and a half week of age. It is true. They are very good layers and foragers. Stock came from Sandhill Preservation.
White Crested Black Polish. $10.00 a dozen
I always thought of these as a useless chicken. I ended up having to raise them due to a family member who thought they were cute. I became rather attached to them. They are unique looking for sure and surprisingly to me these girls are very steady layers. I have an overabundance of their eggs. These also came from Sandhill. They are hatchery quality birds.
Easter eggers. Available in assortments only.
These chickens I have always liked. I find the colored eggs fascinating! I also have always felt that these birds have a lot of hybrid vigor. Excellent layers a great addition to any flock.
Delaware. Available in assortments only.
These birds are hatchery birds, We are using them as a heritage meat chicken. They are pretty fair laayers. Good sized birds. They dressed out at 2 and a half to 3 pounds at four months of age.
Tomaru. Available in assortments only.
These came from Sandhill. I decided I would try one really fun chicken breed in addition to all my practical birds. Disappointingly they do not crow very long at all. I kept the best rooster and a few hens. They are interesting birds with their black faces. They have made excellent broody hens for me. They have hatched a bunch of guineas and even some geese.
Empordanessa Extremely limited! Available in assortments only.
Penedesenca Crele, Black, Partridge.
These came from Luann Keller. I am fascinated by this breed. I will not be sending very many of these. I am looking forward to next year when hopefully I can share more of these rare beauties.
All of our bantams function as setting hens and mothers. When they are not broody I have excess egg! Each breed is housed individually. Available in assortments only. All are hatchery birds not show quality by any means.
