#1•Does barnyard mix mean I don't have the best chickens?
#2• Are barnyard mixes considered bad?
#3•what is their purpose?
#4•Are they in anyway important?

~Not necessarily, but you can't show them in most shows, 4H or open
~Barn yard mixes aren't necessarily worse, I have a half and half that laua better than her Leghorn mother
~Most people seem to like mixes because as hatching eggs, you'll never know what you'll get
~Not really, but they can just be fun

Barnyard mixes often have hybrid vigor. When you mix breeds they have a higher chance of overcoming breed specific issues because there is a greater range of genes involved. Basically they have a good chance of inheriting the best of each parent.

I like hatching mixes from my flock because it's fun to see how the different traits interact.

i like the idea of visual variety in the barn yard mix for eggs, but when it comes to breeding my initial thought is to tow the pure bread line as best i can, im down to own a virity of chicken breeds but im keeping only specific breed of rooster and only incubating that same breed hens eggs.

that is my thought going into this new adventure..

planing on raising chickens/ducks for edible eggs, hatch-able eggs, then meat.

(tho i did just purchase some local fertile barn yard mix of eggs for my first ever incubation) i may change my mind on this..
