Seems all our feed store carries is purina, I asked for starter for the sebastopols geese hatching in about a week and they pointed to flock raiser. Is this stuff ok for goslings? or should I ask my dad to pick up something else at the feedstore near him on the way when he visits tomorrow? (he lives a few hours away)

I'm using it with my goslings that I hatched. They are growing like weeds on it.
However, I also sprinkle grass clover and other greens on their feed and let them inside for a salad dinner two times a day where they get spring mix, kale & collard greens. So, they get lots of greens... and also eat the occasional bug.

Thats what i feed mine and they are fine, they graze here more than they eat the feed.

Good luck with your hatch:D

Thanks I will get them some. They should be happy here then its an all you can eat buffet of grass and weeds in the yard, I took the young chickens out today and they went nuts.

Actually Purina's start n grow would probably be a better Starter for them though I do know people that start geese on Flock Raiser. the most important thing you can do for geese is to get them out grazing on nice spring tender plants IMO.

The start n grow for chicks doesn't have niacin and other essential ingredients (so I have read) that the flock raiser has.

All my hatches from my broody's have flock raiser and oats, and graze from the time mommy takes them out of the nest. My hand raised goslings have flock raiser from day one, and I start grazing around day 4, and providing grass/weed clippings with their food when they aren't grazing (only like a handful or two a day).

I just switched mine from chick starter to the 16% protein pellet stuff, and I don't think they like it... are the pellets too big? THey shouldn't be, they are now 4 weeks are big babies... but they graze all day, and I give them kale>.. jennifer

Most waterfowl hate changes to their feed, I always found blending the new feed into the old feed would usually keep them happy.

I just received my gosling order from Dave Holderread. In a tip sheet sent out ahead of time, he recommends Purina Flockraiser. I had to search high and low to find some since there are local mills with their own brands that are mainly sold in this area. I will probably buy the local stuff after the goslings have gotten off to a good start on the Flockraiser.
