i read a thread here claiming it was a game changer in terms of yolk color. Well I tried it for 6 months. My neighbor feeds his chickens the cheapest feed they sell and I was spending $3 extra on my feed. Yesterday we cracked some eggs to compare and his yolk was much darker than mine. Really disappointed!!

How can I get my egg yolks looking orange?

My eggs are REALLY dark orange, and I've been feeding them cheap stuff I've been buying from the store! Although I usually would be feeding them food from a local farmer, we haven't been able to get out there enough. They also have access to fresh grass, clover, and bugs anytime they want too.:thumbsup

I don't feed layena - my pullets are only 14wks old. I feed Purina Flock Raiser because it's the freshest feed I can find in my area. Last bag I got was milled 3 wks prior. I know vitamins in feed can break down over time, so I was wondering if that had anything to do with the color of your yolks?
