Im sorry, I cant remember where the post was, or who was asking about it....but the conversation was about feeding baby ducklings. I was told that chicken layer feed would be ok, because it was unmedicated. Well...I found Purina Mills....Layena crumbles. It says "sunfresh recipe" Someone was asking me to find the name for them as they was wanting layer crumbles from Purina. So there it is! LOL On the bag back....

Layena is adult chicken layer feed.

You could use the Purina Sunfresh Start & Grow or Flock Raiser for the baby ducks.

I have a contact, where I bought the layena....they called Purina, and have an order in for me for unmedicated duck/game bird starter. However, they said because this is unmedicated, it will be ok for a week or 2 untill my order comes in. No one locally sells unmedicated starter. I was not planning on raiseing these myself, untill momma dissapeared.

Once I get thier proper feed in, I will give this to my hens. I am sure they will love it!

Hi Deb thank you, that was me. So they have the Layena in crumbles ? All they have here is the pellets.I'll have to see if they can get me some.
My girls are so picky, I've been using a blender to chop up the pellets

Hi Miriam.....glad you found the post. Im so sorry, Im a scatter brain sometimes and coundn't find the original post. LOL My new supplier is able to order my duck feed as well. So, I am excited to have found him! Hope you can get your crumbles as well.

You're fine feeding them a medicated feed. The concern was theoretical only. The measure of medication was for chick consumption, and as ducklings consume more feed, they consume more medication as well. But they'd have to consume something akin to a few pounds a day of feed, each, before running into overdosing issues.

While not the ideal feed, layer will do quite adequately for ducklings. They will not grow as fast a they can on a starter ratio, but they will not starve or be unthrifty either. In fact, ducklings may do better on the lower protien layer mix, as the use of high protien starter is associated with increased rates of angel wing.
