I read that breeding a purple cock to a IB hen will give you purple female offspring and IB male offspring split to purple.

I have a purple cock and put an IB hen in with him and she is sitting on their eggs. I would like to take a daughter back the father for more purples. I am trying to work with what I have instead of purchasing more birds.

Can anyone elaborate or let me know what you think.

I know that some colors are sex linked so I would like to know more about the purples. I have not seen many purples. Or the photos I have seen are not very good.

My cock.....

Yes, he has only one eye. Hence his name is One Eyed Jack. He is one of the nicest, best dispositioned peas I own.

He beautiful. Maybe someone with poultry genetics will come alonmg and tell you about those sexlinked genes. I've never messed with Peafowl myself.

Thanks, for the pictures.

yes, all the hen chicks will be purple split blackshoulder. If you breed daughter back to the dad all babies will be purples plus some will be purple blackshoulder chicks also.

Yes, I knew he was BS but am so new to the breeding of peafowl I have no idea what else that may mean. I know I prefer the looks of a black shoulder over one that is "wild type", as we call it in other species that I have studied.

Thank you for telling me more about them. I like the purple!

He is a beauty! Good photos are hard to come by, as cameras don't tend to pick up the colour well. However, the wing colour is easier to see, giving the viewer of any photos a better chance to determine colour. What colour is the hen in the photo?

Thank you.
The hen is just an IB. It is the only extra color girl I had. I had thought to switch them around for next spring but have no idea which color to put with him. Maybe one of the silver pied girls would be pretty with him, I am not sure.
