So last night white I was giving out some yummy treats I noticed the back of Nigals comb is turning purple.... so I was up until 4am reading about this.... everything from frost bite to heart problems. I find on a web site that it could be his mood when mad or randy etc.......
Today it back to being red. Could it be a touch of sun burn? Some of my girls got a "tan" before I put sadles on them. I really hope it is notthing bad cause he is a sweet guy!

Panting chickens?
It got hot here fast! I notice some of my backyard babies have had some open mouth breething. any ideas

Last winter it got to -20 degrees F. and one of my chickens comb got a little frost bitten on just the tips. it didnt make to much of a difference, the tops of his comb just are more rounded instead of pointy. hes the only one who it seems to happen to. i dunno about the purple thing

Our roo just recently had the back of his comb purple and cold. We dusted him for mites and the next day all was well. Comb has returned to red. Don't know if that helps you or not. As far as panting, try to keep some cold water available to everyone. Hopefully someone else has other ideas.
