Purple silkies?

Purple? The chick is cute! Is it safe for little chicks though? Or is that photoshop? LOL! I haven't colored my silkies yet. They have colored themselves from time to time. In spots. Usually when they are out on the grass and dirt, one will invariably take a dirt bath and roll in a stinker chicken poop. At least when they are white, I can tell where those are! LOL! Then I can avoid touching that spot, or do a wet wipe on them to clean it up!

A goot teal or dark blue-green would be way cool too!

I don't think using s mild food coloring will hurt them. The hatcheries
actually inject die into the egg and claim it's harmless. I don't know
if the die is harmless but by marketing colored chicks they get people
to buy them for the cute factor. Many of these people have no idea how
to care for the chicks so they end up suffering and dying. No animal
should be purchased on a whim like that.

Anyone see the Dog Whisperer episode with the pink dog?

I have four white silkie roosters I thought I might try to dye for Easter. Anyone have any thoughts on the procedure. A dip in concentrated Kool-Aid? Maybe food coloring and water? I live along a fairly busy highway and a few big fluffy easter eggs walking around the yard would be an interesting sight.

In some states colouring your chickens is illegal

While dyeing chicks within the egg is purportedly not dangerous, I do wonder how it affects hatch rate.

I have dyed chickens with koolaide (don't use sugar, lol)--just be sure the bird doesn't lay down in the water and drown.

I've also accidentally tie dyed their chests by giving them gatorade.

And if you overdo bluing in rinse water or use dog or horse shampoo for white coats you can get a lavender chicken.

PC...IS that bird colored with dye, or is it just a photoshopped image? Because...if I can get my bird that color...I am GOING to be dying! Which color did you use???
