Purplechicken, bator question..

Which brinsea bator did you get? How are you liking it? I'm thinking of adding another incubator, and since I can't afford, or really need a sportsman at this time, I wanted to see how you were making out with yours. Thanks

I know PC recently got a Brinsea Octagon 40. I have one as well and really love it. I have used it three times so far and have gotten 100% hatch each time. I'm sure PC will be here soon.

If you are in an area where small scale poultry are common watch the radio station websites that have "trading posts" or "swap shops"

I bought mine directly from Brinsea. They put them on sale a few times a year. I really like mine. It is very easy to clean and is basically idiot proof. I have mine in my office. It is totally silent, heats up quickly, and holds the temp perfectly. Can you tell I love it!

I have one of those foam incubators but will never use it again.

Hi Sara.

My 1st hatch in my Octagon 40 is hatching right now.

I love the bator. It's amazing. I started out with Little Giants and liked
them but it took some getting used to them to stabilize the temps.
Then I got this Oct 40 used for $175, an unbelievable deal. The Octagon
holds temps perfectly. The wet bulb thermometers to measure humidity
are fabulous.

Two things to watch out for:
1-It is plastic but VERY fragile. The base can crack very easily.

2-On sunday I put I put 24 eggs in it on the left side which were room temp.
30 minutes later when I look at my wiggler on the right side it was at 104 degrees.
The digital thermostat said said 38C as well as my wet bulb thermo.
For some reason the mass of room temp eggs messed things up. If ever
adding eggs for staggered hatches the new eggs should go in the right tray.

As for expense, ya, they aren't cheap. I was gonna buy the base Rcom20
until the 40 came around. Now they have a new Oct 20 that looks great.

Thanks PC! I saw the Oct 20 model on ebay. I'll have to check the brinsea website. How many eggs does yours hold?
