Purpose?

I'm just curious what the Ostriches,Emus, and Rheas are used for other then pets? I heard that Ostriches were of high value years ago in the meat market but that fad. soon faild to catch like chicken did.

I would eat them. Their sweet red meat steaks taste great. I wonder what the feed conversion rate is if they have some land to range on?

I give the feathers to a friend of mine who makes great fishing lures.

i didnt realize all the uses they are good for. And did not know you could use them to guard livestock like llamas and donkeys.

The meat is absolutely wonderful. A friend always stopped at an ostrich farm on the rural route he commuted, and would have folks over to share. Plus the leg bones are incredible for flute making.
