I hadn't noticed the white either... found another pic that Hattiegun had in another post... definitely looks like it could be a wood duck. Do their bills and eyes lose their color also when they are in eclipse plumage? I have a pair but they are less than a year old and haven't gotten to see them in eclipse yet.

Wow 1lpoock What a pretty duck. Is he snoogable? Does he like his belly chubbled? He's got the cutest little face. Does he like to dig in muck like other ducks? Somehow he looks too pretty to roll in mud. Do we have mandarins in England? I've never seen one.

GeoSheets, yes the male will lose beak color in eclipse plumage...
ETA: Just looking at pics on google, it looks like he can keep his beak color, or he can lose it...

Its also weird that the male wood duck didn't get all his colors. On her BYC page it says she raised him from a duckling and he flew away on Labor day weekend....he should have got his colors by then don't you think?

WOW , she is a He.. we called him He when he was little and then I thought it was a she
when she got her colors... SHe was a Late hatch... born around July 4th.. so she/he was onlly
2 months in this PIC.... When she could fly she took off But would come back every 3-4 days and
I would sit with her on the dock and feed her treats. We live on a lake where she I believe hooked
up with some of the other ducks and am hoping headed south... so does the age , being late hatch
help .!!!! wait til I tell everyone that he, went to she and maybe now back to HE !!!!!! lol lol
PS oh and one of the last times I saw her @ almost 3 months she had a white belly and and a gold
ring around the eyes and beak has orangeie on it ??!!!
