Put Chicks Outside Too Soon.

Ya have to go out just about dark for the first few nights at least and make sure they are in the coop to sleep. They are used to sleeping where they are when they are in the brooder so they dont know any different..

IN response to What Did I Do: the chicks were in a pen with a coop and run area. They fell asleep outside of the coop, which gave the predator the chance to pull them through the wire. I would never leave any of my chickens "out" at night, young or old.

Put my newest babies out in the run today!!! I thought the teenager ones were going to have a heart attack!! Scared half to death of the little ones.(They are the most chicken chickens I have ever had!!) I would say I have at least one roo in the little ones cause he took on the older roo. Jumping right up and kicking him in the face. Oh it was so funny to watch after I stopped panicking.

Older one did finally put him in his place with a little peck to his butt and the little one stopped. They have been out there all afternoon picking up grit and eating green stuff and the teenagers trying to stay away from them. Havent decided yet if I will leave them in the coop tonight or not have to see how they get along at roosting time.
