I've been keeping my chicks in the my shop. But the temp in the makeshift brooder, even with the lights off, is around 95 degrees. I finished building them an outside brooder cage ( five feet off the ground, solid 3 walls, front is hardware cloth) for when they are a little older and before they go to the Chicken Tractor. They are now 10 days and 5 days old. But I felt so sorry for them in that hot box that I moved them outside to the big boy brooder, where the temp is only 90 degrees. They really seem to like it. At first they kinda hung together at one end, but then they started exploring, found the water and food and in general are having a keen time. At least it looks that way to me. Here they can watch the dogs and me while I'm working on their Chicken Tractor. When I looked over at them they were all standing in the front looking out of the wire, I could here them say "WOW look at all that space". I'll be moving them back to the box tonight as the nightime temps here have been around 60 degrees. I think they will be disappointed.
Thunderstorm right now, temp has dropped from 93 to 82, it it gets any cooler I'll have to put them back.

I love chicks first couple days outside. Like you, I move them out and then back to the brooder at night.

Love watching them explore and look around. I always wonder if they are surprised I have feet - all they see in the brooder is my big floating head and shoulders
