You can do manual cervical dislocation without restraining the bird by the feet. Pipe cutters also work well.
Reference for CD in general, or for doing it without holding the legs?I have done this with chicks when needed. Again it's the, "I don't want to mess up and make her suffer more" situation. Do you have a reference I could look at to make sure I'm doing it correctly if this is what I decide to do?

I used this article for instruction on the topic, but instead of holding the bird by the legs I use my left arm to hold it normally, around the keel area. I find that restraining the bird against my chest in that manner gives me a bit of a better angle.
