Putting A Light In The Coop?

Increasing the daylength to 12 to 14 hours will generally stimulate hens to start laying. The results will not be immediate - it will take time to get the hormones rearranged.

Even of they have not been laying all winter?

A light will start them up. But please don't leave the light on all night. The hens must have a dark period, or they will be stressed and may start pecking.

They need 14 hours of light to lay well. One regular light bulb will do it. Put it on a timer to come on around 4am and turn off around 8am. The rest of their 14 hours will be sunlight.

You should have eggs within two weeks.
