I haven’t had to put down a baby chick yet and i ask how does a tender heart do this properly?

I have thought about this method but then I saw a video demonstration and it took FOREVER. I'm not sure what they did wrong but after that I couldn't stomach trying it. Poor thing just peeped and peeped. I used to hatch hundreds of chicks a year. Every now and then I would get one that needed culled right away. Quickly removed the head and was done. They are small, very little blood.Dry ice in a tupper ware I have heard is a humane way. I took mine to the vet though personally. Couldn’t bring myself to do it.![]()
Fortunately for me the one time I had to do this, the vet was open and is 5 minutes from my house. I was not recommending this to others necessarily, just relaying my experience.Sharp Shears. Grip squeeze fast and hard. Done deal. I think your actually doing the responsible thing asking this question. I personally think that before someone gets pets they should know how to put it down if needed. Letting an animal suffer because you need to wait until the vet opens or go for a 30 minute ride to the vet is just wrong in my view. While the person says “I just can’t do it” how about they think about letting that animal suffer longer than needed because “they just can’t do it”. Again this is my personal view and is not directed at anyone specific.
Hatched chicks and never before had to put one down but this chick had a swollen joint in its leg and can only hop or fly hop.Why are you putting it down?
