In before dark and out after day break, some parts of the year might be longer in the coop but they will be fine. We only put water in the coop at night, they don't really use it much except when they first go in and maybe in the morning. When it's dark, they are still and do not use feed or water. I don't like food in the coop also because it attracts mice/rats which brings parasites and can even harm the birds.
