if you roll your eggs by hand, is it ok to put in egg cartons when it comes no roll time?? pointed end down?

i put my eggs in from day one in carboard cartons with dime size hole cut out in each egg slot, and yes to your ?

Yes I've done a few hatches that way. It worked fine and I think the chicks had an easier time pipping and zipping. The downside is on the odd occasion one does pip the wrong end it's unlikely it will be able to hatch and probably die before you realize it's stuck. Also if your doing this in a still air make sure the temp isn't too high after you move the eggs. It will be warmer in the bator the higher up you go so if you put the eggs on their ends they will stick up higher and be warmer than if laid on their sides. Not a huge difference but if you were running nearly too hot (102 or slightly over) in the first place then it could end up being hot enough to do them harm.
