I have a cochin hen that went broody and after her hatch she decided to stay broody and lost much of her body weight and doesn't have very much meat left on her. my poor girl is almost just skin and bones. I have her eating the layer feed and drinking water normally now, but is there anything I can do to get some more meat and body weight back on her? She's not for eating, I just want to get her back in shape. Anything I can give her or do for her?

Thanks!

Give her good quality feed and some time. I got 7 starving brahma roos from a neighbor a few years ago, and it took seven months for them to get any meat on them. I'm not sure that they weighed more than 2lbs each when we got them. Sadly, my animals don't pack the weight on nearly as fast as I can. And I can't lose is as fast as they do...

When we were calving my chickens ate cow placentas and got very fat. I know that you can't give her placentas but bugs are high in protein. I'd give her meat scraps from your table along with everything else you are feeding.

Flock raiser would be better than layer feed if you what to fatten up a chicken. It's what they feed meat birds to fatten them up to eat.
