Hi Guys!
I am trying to put together a natural remedy cabinet/reminder, hoping that prevention will be better... So far, I have:
- Cod liver oil (for vitamin D deficiency)
- Oyster shell grit (for digestion)
- Dried crushed pumpkin seeds (Worms)
- Garlic (Worms)
- Apple Cider vinegar (Worm and tonic)
- Cat food (protein)
- Tuna (protein)
- Egg yolk (protein)
- Honey (energy)
- Yoghurt (digestive tract)
- Grated apple (mineral and vitamin)
- Baby rice/oats (Bulking in food mix)
- Back rescue remedy (Trauma)
Has anybody any other suggestions to be added?
Also has anybody tried "Echinacea tincture" for bacterial and viral infection?
Thanks for your help,
Natalie

I'd like to see more items SPECIFICALLY for sour crop, particularly if there is a fungal component. I'm worried that the ACV tonic could actually contribute to a fungal overgrowth - fungi LIKE acidic environments! Bacteria don't, and bacteria are probably more common in the case of "rotten vegetable matter" stuck in a crop, so ACV is best in most cases. But what about fungi/yeast?

Also, what about some natural items for mites/lice? Is Orange Oil effective at all for these? Or Rosemary? I've heard that Rosemary and Clove are good on dogs for fleas...

I think this is an excellent idea. As a newbie, both to poultry (ducks) and BYC forums, I would love to see a sticky (pretty please) unless there is one I missed, for a first aid /emergency kit of natural remedies, like your list, and/or other ideas of things to have on hand during emergencies. I have, thankfully, not had to deal with any injuries, predators, etc. and hope I never do, but if I did, having a first aid kit already put together would sure help during the stress of trying to help my ducks.

I will watch this thread closely for all the great ideas people will be adding to it.

Thank you so much. I guess my biggest question is all the things you have listed, will they work on DUCKS too? Or is it just for chickens?

Thanks!
Kathy

What is prep H? What does it do?
And Olive oil? What are the benefits...
Sounds great though...

kust some thoughts
Oilive oil is to be used in the sour crop idea
drops down the throat and massage crop
on this idea
use crop flush
1/2 cup of baking soda
1 pint of warm water
and use childs ear syringe and fill it with the warm soda water and put in back of throat and express it into the crop
then take your fingers and come up under crop and force sour feed or what ever is in the crop
do this three times till crop is cleaned out

you can email me for the crop surgery if flush dails to do the trick

Also for coccidiosis and worming
I would use the cayanne pepper in the daily feed
1 gallon of crumbles
3 tbsp of cayanne pepper
it is herbal and much more effective
ACV is not a wormer but a solution to make good gut flora grow and chickens to use calcium and Vit D effectively

Whey Powder (cocci remedy, grated apples too).
Chick Weed, when in season (immunity booster and overal awesome thing to give your birds)
Peppermint, Catnip, and Marigold Oil (mite repellent)
Diatamacious Earth (calcium source, wormer, prevents fly eggs from hatching in droppings)
Vitamin E Oil (helps with molting stress and fertility)
Hypericum (pain reliever, nerve damage, stress, slight appetite stimulator, treatment for Marek's Disease)

For Crop Binding, mix warm water and olive oil in equal parts and fill the crop (not to the point of vomiting, but as full as you can). Massage in a pinching motion, starting at the top and work down. Be firm. When the crop is moving, make a drench of Probiotics and give orally. The probiotics will "competitively exclude" harmful microbes.
