i went out yesterday morning and found 2 of my RIR pullets deheaded and my EE hen twisted up...

something forced its way in through the top of the chicken wire...what coulda got in... i saw an owl last night up on the power lines:/ could he be the assailent that killed 3 of my 12 chickens :mad: i went down yesterday and bought 2 more leghorns and a baby silkie..thats about 4 weeks old

i love em.. anybody think that the owl coulda forced his way in...im not sure about a raccoon i've never seen one around here!

I'm not sure what got your birds BUT I personally would fix the problem area before getting any new birds.

Just because you don't see coons, don't mean that they aren't any around. I've yet to see one after living here for 6 years but they keep decimating our landlady's flocks and her farm is right behind ours.

I'm with Dawn on this, I'm thinking coons. Those little "hands" of theirs are amazingly strong and nimble. I don't see them during the day either, but I know they're here.

Can you replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth?
 
I agree that the culprit was a racoon, sounds like their MO. I would lock the chickens in their coop at night, racoon's hands are so dextrous that they can get through just about any wire you use.
