PVC Pipe

I have been pondering the idea of using PVC pipe to frame out my chicken run. The ground is very difficult to dig for posts. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a good option or no?

Years ago I made a pen out of PVC. It held up for a long time (about 4 years I believe), but over time it will dry rot and become brittle.

Maybe others who have more experience will chime in.

I’ve made several out of PVC. Currently I have one that is 10’x20’x 2.5’ tall that I drag around the yard. I use the 3/4” 10’ sticks of pvc electrical conduit. It is more sun resistant. I make some kind of a joint every 5’ because it does sag. You can find about any type of joint needed if you buy “furniture grade” pvc joints. I zip tie chicken wire all around the sides and top but I do have an electric fence surrounding it to help with predators.
They are useful for chicken tractors because they are so light when they need to be moved.
