I want to do a pvc piping coop, for affordability. What draw backs are there to pvc piping coops, and what are the upsides.

White PVC is not UV resistant and degrades in the sunlight. Nonmetallic electrical conduct (the gray stuff) is PCV but UV resistant, also costs a bit more. A lot of time sprinkler systems use ABS (it's black) and it's UV resistant but takes different glue. Also sometimes costs more.

I concur with spending more money for the black or grey PVC. I used white, which has held up for two years so far, but for longevity I should have gone with grey or black. I love my hoop coop. I have tarps over the top of my coop so the white PVC is not in the sun at all. I find that a hoop coop allows you to stand up within the coop without bumping your head and you can extend it at any time to make it longer if needed. I would build a wooden 2x4 frame for the bottom and attach the PVC to that so it won't blow away.

I’ve never built a coop I’ve built several runs out of 3/4 pvc electrical conduit. You should use furniture grade fittings for the joints, they are also UV resistant and there are many types of fittings so you can build any shape you want. They make slip joints you can use to make swing doors. Here’s a pic of a 10’x20’ run I’m working on now. I’m not using this a a tractor but I will be able to drag this by myself to its permanent location when done.
