Hello All,

I have a 9 Month old pygmy doe and unfortunately our buck who is used for our other females 2+ broke into the pen with the 9 month old. My question is do I consider aborting or go ahead with it? it is safe? she is a triplet herself does that reflex on how many she will deliver?

Any advice is welcome.
Thankyou

How much does she weigh? Weight gives a better idea of her ability to have a healthy pregnancy than age. Though for Nigerian Dwarves (closely related to Pygmies) the bare minimum breeding requirements is 9 months old age and 45lbs. Goats need to be getting within about 80% of their adult weigh before they should be bred. If they're bred too young, then they have to devote valuable energy they should be using to grow their body to instead grow a kid. Pregnancy and lactating takes a lot of energy, as you likely already know.

At least she isn't a tiny five month old kid who got in with a buck. So she may be safe. But consulting a veterinarian for a professional medical opinion may be a wise course of action.

I would hope she'd have at least twins. The problem lies in a small first timer having a huge, single buckling. That is where trouble occurs, because they can get too big by having no twin to share space and nutrients with.

I have had some pregnant at that age, most did fine, though be prepared to help pull it out if she has trouble, pygmies seem to mature faster than say dairy breeds, so feed her well, but not too fat. Most first time mothers have one or two, it does seem to be hereditary, though I don't recall having triplets out of a first timer.
