Before treating with Valbazen it is necessary to kill possible roundworms first with something like safegaurd. It can overload the bird passing too many parasites at once, per my avian veterinarian.Pyrantel Pamoate treats the usual poultry roundworms; large roundworms, cecal worms and capillary worms. It is a very good wormer. Nemex 2 has a 4.54mg of pyrantel base of pyrantel pamoate, is all that is needed to treat different types of roundworms.
However it requires dosing of 2.5ml per bird. The Nemex 2 is okay for a small flock, probably no more than 5 or 6 birds. More than that, it can get expensive at $15 per 2 ounce bottle. That's why I prefer Valbazen, more bang for the buck even for a large flock.

No, you don't need to use Safeguard (Fenbendazole) before you use Valbazen (Albendazole). Before treating with Valbazen it is necessary to kill possible roundworms first with something like safegaurd. It can overload the bird passing too many parasites at once, per my avian veterinarian.
No. Valbazen (Albendazole) slowly kills worms over several days. FYI: Valbazen (Albendazole) and Safeguard (Fenbendazole) are in the same class of wormers (Benzimidazoles.) Your vet shouldve told you that. Before treating with Valbazen it is necessary to kill possible roundworms first with something like safegaurd.
