I was wondering if chickens are ok with pyrethrum. I have a product that works great for insects and pests on other animals but I know that chickens can be sensitive to some stuff that might seem fine. It is a 1% -2% pyrethrum mix in Diatomaceous Earth powder. Have any of you used this on your birds? I am wanting to dust my birds for mites and lice and also their coop. I have plain DE but the stuff with Pyrethrum works really fast and nothing gets away from that....

It's safe to use. To keep the chickens from breathing in dust (and you) try to dust them outside.

I think MissPrissy posted about dusting with a poof ball made from the foot of panty hose. I've tried it, works great. Also putting the dust in a bag, putting chicken in bag w/neck sticking and shaking around out to limit dust flying around also works well, too.
