Pyrrhos is about ten days old. After her bath, I noticed that she was going 'bald' in certain places. I was really worried, but after looking it up, it seems like it's totally normal for ducklings to go through a bald phase before their pretty feathers come in. She does seem a little young to me, but she also gets baths about twice a day, sometimes three times a day if her baths have to be cut short. Generally, each bath is about ten minutes long(only because she doesn't like to be in it for very long; I guess because she's alone).

Here are a few of pictures of Pyrrhos after her bath and her balding-ness.

That does seem kind of young to be losing down, what are you feeding her? is she getting any kind of Poultry vitamins? niacin or Brewers yeast? Have you noticed her pulling on her down?

Now that she's dry, she doesn't have any bald spots. I think it may just be that her down is thin.

I'm feeding her Dumor Chick Starter/Grower. My friend is mailing me niacin today. She doesn't seem to be "pulling" her down, but she does itch a lot. Not all the time. Really just when she's wet or when she's laying down getting ready for bed.

The itching is normal. glad to hear your starting her on niacin, you'll be heading off any potential leg problems.

I brought her outside today for the first time(it's 80 degrees, so not too cold). She was really nervous at first, but she slowly got used to it and even tried to eat some dead leaves(tried and failed, lol). The area she'll be in needs some cleaning up, but she didn't move around much(really at all unless I got up).

Yes, that's dog poop. x.x I didn't even see it until I uploaded the pictures. I don't think Pyrrhos was at all interested in it, though.

You can (kinda) see in this picture that her down is still there and she is not bald lol. (:

She is so cute, and 80 is perfect exploring the yard weather. It's very important that they have outside time. Just like us.

Lol isn't she? And so very spoiled. XD

Back to her feathers... I have a friend who has Mallards, and she said her babies started losing their down at about one week. Is it possibly a "Mallard thing" since Mallards are wild? Can anyone with Mallard experience shed some light on this?
