Pysanky anyone?

That's one of those things that I've always wanted to try but haven't. I've made egg ornaments w/rub-ons, etc., but that's about it.

Did you do the eggs in your avatar pic?

yeah...actually wanting decent eggs to decorate is what's brought me into chickens.

the commercially produced eggs have lines around them where the rollers compress the shell and they don't take the dye evenly.

I had a friend who did that, but he moved across the country and I haven't seem him for years.
Would you post a couple of pictures of your eggs? I love seeing these wonderful works of art!

I do pysanky!!!!

Cool! welcome to BYC!
would love to see pictures of your work if you have any.

I have all my tools out but haven't had much time lately to do anything...itching to get back to it, but building a new coop taking precedence now that the weather has turned nice finally...

Laura I guess I sent more than the alloted PM messages so you I don't think you got my last email about the retreat.

Here it is ...

I'm in Ohio.

The retreat is going to be in PA in the Pocono mountains.
It is hosted by a guy who has a website and sells pysanky stuff

google

pysanky usa.

It's a little tricky finding the link about the retreat but on the home page read the paragraph under Jim's picture and you should be able to find it.

The retreat is at the end of July for 3.5 days.

In that you love to do modern stuff there is a guy Mark Machoski (sp?) who does the most beautiful geometric/modern designs with beautiful shading. I'm taking 2 of his classes.

How did your duck egg turn out? Duck eggs can be challenging bc some have kind of a greasy shell and don't always take the dye well. At the retreat they are doing a class on mastering the duck egg-lol

Cost of the retreat is 250 plus class fees. I guess the living quarters are in an old monistary (sp?) and there won't be air conditioners in the bedrooms but there will be in the classrooms. (I love my AC but I'll deal with it for 3 nights as long as I have a fan=lol)

The 250 also includes all meals which are served buffet style and I guess the food is very good. You also get all the chicken eggs you want and all the dye and wax you use there are included. (Jim makes his own dye and has 67 colors!!!)

YOu have to ask to join a class if you are interested. (Click on classes and then send an email to the teacher.)

Cost of almost all the class is 10 bucks an hour. Some are a little more money if extra supplies are needed.
(Most classes are 2 hours- I think that is a good deal)

You just need to bring your kistka- whatever type you use.

Go check it out. I am SO EXCITED TO GO!!!!!

Also- I sent a PM to you- not sure if you got it bc I exceeded my allotted PMs- that if you want some blown bobtail white quail- I'll gladly send you some for the cost of postage.
I just emptied 500! lol

thanks for the info on the retreat...that sounds like so much fun! I hope I can go!

I would love to try some quail eggs! how do you get them to sink into the dyebath once you blow them out?

I think your PM's did get through, I had just gone to bed.
