Q: What Feed Do I Use For Show Chickens?

Usually, normal chicken feed is fine for show birds. They really don't require a much different feed. But, many exhibitors use a higher protein feed, such as game bird grower, to help birds grow in nice feathers and hold condition. Be sure to not feed too much corn, as it can make birds "brassy" (have a yellowish hue). Some supplemental greens can be beneficial, intensifying the yellow color in yellow skinned breeds.

Hi WildWyandott – Sorry for the delayed response!

For show birds, Flock Raiser is an ideal choice. The 20%-protein concentration is ideal to support optimal structural growth and feather development. You can choose to supplement the diet with additional protein sources, but I would recommend providing Flock Raiser as at least 90% of the total diet to ensure proper provision of energy, vitamins and minerals. We also have a complete line of Honor Show Chow poultry products designed for show birds.

Hope this helps!
