Dont be worried. my ducks are terrified of water. they will not get into a pond unless im in it or i throw them in . it seems my ducks rule is thier fine with water as long as they can touch the floor one they float is time to jump out. there also terrified of rain. they just run around looking for shelter. its hilarious really. there a year old and have been like this ever since they hatched

Does the pump by any chance look like it might be a turtle? Round and squat?

Not really. Besides, they've never seen a turtle.
